Ten Factors to Consider Before Choosing Your Dorm

February 10, 2017

Ten Factors to Consider Before Choosing Your Dorm | Soon, many students will begin applying for housing for the next academic year. While this is very exciting for many students, there are many factors a student should take into consideration when choosing their dorm, just as there were many factors to consider when picking a college. This post (Ten Factors to Consider Before Choosing Your Dorm) gives a list of ten factors that every student living on-campus should take into consideration when choosing a dorm. | Forever Charlotte Nicole | www.forevercharlottenicole.com

When I was an incoming freshman, I was naturally looking forward to dorm life and the experience of having a place to call my own. However, I  didn’t realize what factors to consider when choosing a dorm, so I decided to save money by choosing the cheapest dorm available. While this was a financially-savvy decision, there were many downsides that resulted by having cost being the only factor I considered from choosing my dorm. At the time, I hadn’t realized how much the dorm I picked could contribute to my college experience, and it definitely had a profound experience. Learning from that experience, I decided to put together a list of ten factors for both incoming and continuing students to consider before choosing your future dorm. [Read more…]

How to Apply to Scholarships (the right way!)

January 29, 2017

How to Apply for Scholarships (the right way!) | There are plenty of scholarships out there to help students fund their college education. This post covers how to apply to them the right way. | Forever Charlotte Nicole | www.forevercharlottenicole.com

All students can agree that the price tag of a college education is scary. Between tuition and fees, housing, meal plans, parking passes, textbooks, and more, it seems like the many bills that come with it never seems to end.  For most students, trying to avoid and/or overcome this mountain of student debt is…well…like trying to climb a mountain. Luckily, there are plenty of scholarships out there to help us fund our education.

When I began to apply for scholarships in my junior year of high school, I read so many articles about students who are winning hundreds of thousands of dollars—sometimes even millions—in scholarships. I didn’t even know how it was possible, much less how I could do it. While I know the chances of winning that much is slim, a student really only needs the total cost to earn for their degree. (Although with great planning, motivation, and hard work, it is possible to earn a huge amount!) [Read more…]

How to Request a Job Shadow

January 21, 2017

How to Request a Job Shadow | Many students want to make sure that their career path is the right one for them, but how do you figure that out? Job shadows! Find out how to request one with this post. | Forever Charlotte Nicole | www.forevercharlottenicole.com

Job shadowing is perhaps one of the most important things a student can do when deciding on a career path and/or networking with others in his or her field. In fact, it’s best to do this before a student’s senior year, as job shadowing early on can help the student have access to many more opportunities. (If you would like to read about why you should job shadow, click here to read my post!)

However, no matter whether you are a senior or a freshman, there is no doubt that a job shadow can be a very valuable experience for you. However, it can also be a little daunting. After all, who wouldn’t feel a bit awkward when following a stranger around their job for a day? I know I felt that way!

Additionally, the process of finding and setting up a job shadow can appear be very complicated. Luckily, it’s actually quite simple. You just set-up the job shadow, go to the location on a specified date and time, and follow an employee around for a few hours. If anything, setting up the job shadow might be the hardest part of the process, and that’s exactly what we’re going to discuss how to do. [Read more…]

What to do After You Win a Scholarship

January 17, 2017

What to do After You Win a Scholarship | There are plenty of articles that reveal the best way to apply to scholarships and how to increase your chances of winning, but none of them tell you what you need to do if you win. This post reveals just that. | Forever Charlotte Nicole | www.forevercharlottenicole.com

Every student that applies for a scholarship dreams of receiving that fateful email, letter, or phone call that informs them that they have won. After all, who wouldn’t be excited to find out that the long, arduous process of writing an essay, collecting transcripts and recommendation letters, filling out the application, and whatever else you may have needed to do, finally paid off in a big way.

I know I felt this way after hearing that I had won a scholarship. However, shortly after finding out that I was the recipient, I realized that nobody had ever told me about what I needed to do after I won. Everybody just talks about what you need to do to win.

Which brings me to the topic of this post: Depending on the scholarship, there may be a few different things that you need to do after you win, and this list just covers a few of the basics. After all, each scholarship is unique, and each may for different things from their winners. Many of them, however, will follow these steps: [Read more…]

Why You Should Job Shadow Before Senior Year | Internships are a great way to explore a job field or career, but have you ever tried job shadowing? Check out this post to see why you should job shadow before your senior year! Letters From Sunshine | www.lettersfromsunshine.com

As a future member of the workforce, you’ve no doubt heard about the importance of networking. In fact, you’ve probably heard more than you care to about networking and career skills. After all, you’re constantly being bombarded by career fairs, classes on communication and networking skills, resume reviews, and articles on how to uphold a professional look and attitude. As if that wasn’t enough, we’re always hearing about the importance of attending conferences and participating in internships, all so that you can get your foot in the door and work towards your future career. While all of this is admirable, it can be extremely confusing and overwhelming , especially if you don’t know what field or major you want to pursue; even if you do know what major or field you want, figuring out the exact job you want can be nerve-wracking, especially since many majors can lead to a wide variety of jobs.

This leads us to some important questions: What do you do if you’re going to college and don’t know what field you want to go into? Or if you do know what your preferred field is, how to choose from the many diverse careers it can bring you? After all, trying to figure this out can leave any student feeling overwhelmed.

However, the answer is simple, but many students have never even heard of it before: job shadowing. [Read more…]
